PDRacer World Championship
There are two official world championships. One is the the "World Championship" which is on a 3 year rotating schedule to determine who hosts the following year's race. For info about winning the rights to host this race, see the bottom of this page. The second is the "SDDP World Championship", which means Same Day Different Place, where anyone across the world can compete in their local waters on the same 3 day time window. For more info, see the bottom of this page.

2010 World Championship
Jane Turnell and Gordon Seiter hosted a race on 9-13-09 at Sunoka Beach in Summerland B.C., 7 boats participated. This was the largest race in the qualifying time period, and they have acquried the rights to host the 2010 World Championship Race. Here are the details of the event: [click here]

2009 World Championship
Tim Cleary hosted the race on October 10, 2009 at Allatoona Lake near Atlanta, GA. 13 puddle ducks attended making it the largest puddle duck race to that date. 3 conventional round the buoy races were run to compose the championship, plus later an extra pirate poker race for fun, and on Sunday an improvised sail race for fun.
Shawn Payment won the buoy races with the best point score, becoming our new world champion and 2008 champion Andrew Linn has already begun forwarding all new requests for interviews and charitable donations to Shawn. In the event that Shawn is unable to fulfill his duties as World Champion, 1st runner up Marc Blazer stands ready to assume the title. However, since the class rules identify NO behaviors as TOO outrageous to require defrocking of a reigning champion, (including, for example, the appearance of compromising photos on the internet and/or class action sexual harrassment lawsuits alleging flagrant "buoy slapping") there is little fear of Shawn being forced to relinquish his title.

The Okanagan Fleet of Puddle Duck racers played host to the 2007 Puddle Duck World Championships over the weekend at Peach Orchard Park in Summerland. Fleet Captain Gordon Seiter in Hull #58, Goliath took first Overall. The Team of Christine Caumartin and Ted Morrison sailed Boat # 146, Martin Cleaners BCQT to second overall. Rick Landreville out of Chilliwack finished third in Hull #136, Monstrosity. Rick also won the prize for coming the furthest distance to attend, and enjoyed the room donated by The Rosedale Motel.
In total seven boats took part in the two day event. Honorable mention goes to the Smith Family of Faulder who entered two boats and saw their newest, Hull #114 Lincoln Imp, crewed by Gary and Mathew win Sunday's Tail Chase Race. Race Organizer Jane Turnell admits Mandy and Racheal were somewhat handicapped racing Hull #92 Sink-A- Moose constructed by Summerland Mayor David Gregory during last years Centennial Puddle Duck Hatch.

Winning The Rights to Host The World Championship
Race Location & Race Host
The World Championship Race location shall be rotated in a 3 year cycle.
- Every third year, Shorty will host the race (2006, 2009, 2012, 2015...)
- The next race can't be hosted by an organizer if they hosted in the previous 2 years
- The next race can't be within 650 miles of either previous 2 years locations
Rules for winning the rights,
to host future world championships
To get the rights for the next one, a race organizer has to hold a race & submit their bid within 60 days before or after the current World Championship. The organizer with the largest number of PDRacers on the starting line in that time period, gets the rights and can then pick the date and location for the next calendar year WC race.
1 - The boats involved in the race must be registered, class legal PDRacers.
2 - The bid event, can't be within 650 miles of the previous 2 world championships
3 - The starting line of the race has to be on the water, the hulls must be floating, and each boat must have a skipper in it.
4 - If 2 races had the same number of hulls, then the race that started first (local time) gets the rights.
5 - 51% of the boats at that race, must have not participated in the previous 2 world championships.
NOTE: The 51% rule doesn't mean returning boats can't participate in your bid event, it just means some of them won't count for your bid. Lets say you have 10 boats at your bid event, and 6 of them participated in (one or both of the 2 latest) world championship. Then your bid amount is 4 new hulls + 3 returning hulls = 7 total valid hulls.
Submit your bid to host a world championship
To submit your bid, you must email Shorty directly (shorty@shortypen.com) with the following information:
Date of the event you hosted
Organizers name
Organizers email
Location of event
Number of valid PDRacers that participated
List of hull numbers of boats that participated
picture of all the boats together at the event
Guidelines For Hosting The World Championship Race
1 - The world championship race itself needs to be free to enter for anyone with a registered class legal hull, and their crew.
2 - All of the racing that constitutes the world championship needs to be completed in a single 12 hour time window.
3 - The race organizer may organize whatever type of race(s) they want for the championship.
4 - The rules for the championship race(s) need to be simple, clear, and published ahead of time.
5 - If a protest arises, a protest hearing must be immediately held right after the race, and the protest committee is made up of the sailors who sailed in the race. The sailors will hear the protest, and vote on the resolution as they understood the rules when the race was started (not as explained after the race).
6 - If for some reason the organizer who acquired the rights to host the next world championship can't / doesn't want to host the race, they may transfer the rights to whomever they want.
Same Day Different Place World Championship
For all of us that can't make it to the World Championship Race, this SDDP race for you ! Basically we all go sailing in our own home waters during the same time window. We then send in our results of how fast we went over the distance and the person with the fastest time wins.
Rules:
1 - Boat must be registered, class legal.
2 - Each person will sail 5 miles in water and report the time it took to cover that 5 miles.
3 - Distance measured by Point to point, not elapsed distance by GPS.
4 - Can sail more than required distance, and use section of that sail.
5 - Must change direction so 50% of distance travelled was in opposite directions. And by opposite, we mean atleast 60 degree difference from previous direction was travelling.
6 - Wind blown only
7 - Must be sailed in an area where tidal flows & currents will not affect the speed.
8 - Race Window is 3 calendar days, the middle day is the same date as the official PDRacer World Championship race.
NOTE: Since we have a 3 day window, and results are reported by the person, multiple people can use the same boat at different times, and each of them would be independent competitors for the SDDP world championship.
9 - You must post your own results to the PDRacer yahoo discussion group by midnight the day after, the last day of window.
