Water World Race
Background
Have you seen the movie Waterworld? There is a scene in the movie where Kevin Costner drops his lime tree overboard and has to circle around to pick it up. With the boat flying along, he leans over and snatches it up.

Object Of The Race
Everyone has a tennis ball that is tied inside of a sock - this is your lime tree. You have to throw your lime tree forward into the water and then go pick it up. You are not allowed to carry it, you have to constantly throw it, and then retrieve it. The first one to sail around the course wins.

NOTE: If someone else's ball lands in your boat, you must immdiately drop (not throw) it over the transom. You are not allowed to pickup someone else's ball. The tennis balls should not be modified to be heavier for safety reasons, don't want to have someone else get hurt by them. Depending on your fleet, various tennis ball throwing devices may be used.

The trimaran used in the movie is docked at Harbor Island in San Diego. [click here]

Origin of this race
I was standing around at a pdrace and talking with Ray Brogdon. Was describing to him how I was out sailing my pdracer with my daughter and came upon a plastic bottle floating in the water. I filled it 1/3 with water, tied a string to it's neck, and flung it forward. Then sailed up to it and my daughter snatched it out of the water. With a very excited tone, she said "Daddy, daddy, throw it again!", so we sailed on throwing the water bottle around for a while. Ray remembered the scene in the movie and suggested we should make a race out of it. A tennis ball in a sock seems like a good lime tree, so incase someone is accidentally hit, it won't hurt.
