Teardrop Trailers For PDRacers
A Tear Drop trailer seems to be a general term for a very small travel trailer. They apeared back in the 50's in the shape of a teardrop, and about the size of 4' wide by 8' long. Mostly used as a plywood tent, the main area is for sleeping with the back end of the trailer opening up to show a kitchen for cooking. Many small boat builders have expressed great interest in making them, probably because they look very similar to plywood boats, only taller and not meant to float.

Frye's Teardrop
Richard Frye is a prolific kayak builder. He builds all sorts of kayaks and when he first saw a teardrop trailer, he immediately built one to carry his kayaks.

Bibbens Teardrop
Andrew Gibbens drew up a basic teardrop trailer that is meant to mate with a PD on it's roof. For a more extensive drawing of the trailer [click here]

He enjoys drawing up teardrop trailer shapes, you can see more of his sketches at his website.

Hump Back
Aerodymics while towing can be a major factor, and if the complete trailer you are towing is the same height or shorter than your car, it will create less wind resistance while on the road. The Hump Back design is a very short trailer that when the PD is on top, the total height is the same as the roof of your car. It has a hatch cover in the top so that you get more head space by removing the cover on the cabin, and the inverted PD creates a higher roof. Or you can pull the PD off and use a tent with the bottom that has been removed.

PD Butt
It might be a little funky looking, but the sloped rear of a teardrop sure does look like a perfect spot to park a PD.

Pop Top
Would you like full standing headroom and a private potti that doubles as a sit down shower? Here is a concept for a trailer that is slightly larger than the typical teadrop, yet has a lot more functionality to it.

The pop top is just a simple box with windows in it, for travel it is removed and turned upside down, then placed into the top hatch and another weather cover goes on top. You can then carry a PDRacer up on top of it.

Stubby
How about sleeping in your PD while it is on the trailer? This is a concept where a very short cabin is added to the front of your trailer for either storing your extra camping gear, or possibly as room for your kids to sleep. The trailer can still be used for launching and retrieving the PD.
