Sea Hawk On Ladybird Lake

I recently re-rigged Sea Hawk (#758) with a gaff rig (properly done Dacron sails this time) and took her out for a spin with my daughter on Ladybird Lake in Austin, TX. In light winds she did just fine, but when the breeze picked up, she showed a strong weather helm. Too strong, in fact, and she was hard to control unless the main sheet was all the way out. The center of pressure on the new sail is too far back for the lee-boards. I’ll need to move them back or add a jib to balance her better. All in all, though, I’m pleased, and we had a beautiful day on the water. People always like to see a home-made boat, and I’m always happy to tell them about PDRacer.com!

Fair winds,
-Tim
